How to Create Super Cute Crochet Baby Sunhat

Good evening to all!

Today  I am sharing my pattern for a Crochet Baby Sunhat.  Therefore, I’m so excited to have sun and warm weather again.  Here in Illinois it was a long time coming.

One of my favorite things to do is to watch my Grand-Daughter, Skylar Grace, who just happens to be my little model for this new  Crochet Baby Sunhat pattern.

Isn’t she just adorable!!!  Now that’s a Grammy talking!

Sky and I love to take walks around the neighborhood or play in the yard, as a result I created this pattern.  Skylar is actually in her stroller when walking the neighborhood because she just started crawling…for that reason, walking is probably happening next week.  He-He!  Anyway with Sky being outside I decided it probably would be a good idea for her to have a Crochet Baby Sunhat to keep the hot summer sun off her little almost bald head.  (she is really starting to get some very light brown probably will turn blonde hair)

Important Info:

First of all, the Crochet Baby Sunhat pattern is an easy pattern to create.  Therefore, any level crochet artist from beginner to advanced can create it.  The yarn I used was “I Love This Cotton” yarn from Hobby Lobby.  This yarn is super soft to the touch. You can create this Crochet Baby Sunhat in any color however,  white or another light color will reflect sunlight.

Supplies needed:

  • Yarn Weight: 4 – Medium, 1 skein
  • Fiber: 100% Cotton
  • Brand: I Love this Yarn
  • 24″ of ribbon in choice of color/print
  • Yarn needle
  • Hook: I/9 5.50 mm or size needed to obtain gauge

Also, any brand 100% cotton yarn in same weight will work well.   White cotton yarn  reflect the suns hot rays off her little head and cotton so the hat allows her head to breathe.  Can’t beat that!  I’m planning on buying  ribbon in different colors and patterns so Sky can wear different looks.  What Grand-Daughter doesn’t need extra outfits?  Right?  Am I right or what…He-He.

The stitching on this hat is a lace open stitching as a result, allows air to circulate on her head too!

Stitches used:

  • SLST-slip stitch
  • CH-Chain stitch
  • HDC-Half double crochet
  • SH-Shell stitch
